The inaugural international conference on Propolis in Human & Bee Health was held at the Technology and Innovation Centre in Glasgow last week.
The event was organised by Strathclyde University in conjunction with the Apiceutical Research Centre, a not-for-profit educational organisation established by BeeVital. The event itself featured a host of world experts presenting topics as diverse as 'The benefits of propolis to honey bee health and social immunity' and 'The remarkable anti-protozoal properties of propolis'.
"The event is the first of it's kind and represents the growing diversity of high level academic research into this wonderful substance propolis. It also reflects a wider global concern around the future of bees in general, as we look to raise the profile of their plight and find solutions to declining populations. With growing antibiotic resistance and a renewed interest in natural solutions, it appears the future health of humans and bees are inextricably linked." - Hugo Fearnley, Director of the Apiceutical Research Centre.
It is hoped that the conference will become a regular event and there is even discussion around the possibility of a dedicated research journal for this emerging area of natural medicine.
